Sept 1st 2007 v Clwb Rygbi
Sully Sports RFC Head Coach, Micky Spillane was still upbeat despite the heavy loss in the opening fixture of the new WRU 6th Division.
Although too many first up tackles were missed, the players competed throughout and never let their heads drop, and although the visitors outmuscle, outweighed them and had the better pace behind, there were signs that the Sports, still without a few of their 1st line squad, will eventually get into a useful outfit.
The Sports did not show the clinical finishing of Clwb Rygbi when chances were created, and if they had then the scoreline would have not been so one sided.
The visitors used their big mobile pack to score the first two tries from rolling mauls, off lineouts in the home 22, and their fluent open game then produced tries at regular intervals.
On the home front, in the pack hooker Nick Sewell and prop Toby Warren put in very strong performances, and fullback David Stillman had an outstanding debut and was the Sports man-of-the-match by a long way. But it is going to take a little time to transfer the good hard training ground work on to the playing arena.
