27th Feb 2005 v Fecamp Tour
A party of 50 members of the Junior Rugby Section, the Under 13 and Under 12 teams plus coaches and dads, visited Fecamp, the twin town of the Vale of Glamorgan, for the weekend of the recent France v Wales Six Nations match.
Old friends Fecamp Rugby Club hosted the party, providing accommodation at a nearby Manor House, and lots of hospitality throughout the weekend.
Sully Sports were given a Civic Reception, in the Town Hall, by the Mayor of Fecamp and members of the Twinning Committee on Friday evening, which was followed by a welcoming buffet hosted by the Rugby Club at a nearby hall.
Saturday morning, after breakfast at “Big Ben’s Bar” 32 of the party set off to Paris for the game at the Stade de France, in what turned out to be a most memorial, emotional and entertaining experience. The remainder of the group stayed in Fecamp for sightseeing before adopting a local cafe bar to watch the two International televised games, and even though they did not experience the thrills live in the stadium, all thoroughly enjoyed their day.
Sunday was slightly disappointing as the two planned fixtures had to be called of because of the frozen, iced and snow covered pitches. The morning was not a complete write-off as the hosts rented a local Sports Hall and a series of touch rugby games were played, much to the pleasure and entertainment of players and spectators.
The trip ended with a luncheon and presentations of gifts/memorabilia, at Fecamp RC’s Clubhouse, before a few hearty goodbyes and even a few tears and promises to keep the exchanges going each year.
